Evening news in Louisville won't be the same come February 2025. Longtime journalist and WAVE news anchor and Troubleshooter John Boel announced he'll retire next year.
Boel made the announcement publically on social media where he wrote: "I've spent 40 years in this biz trying to help people. But there are some others back in WI (Wisconsin) who need my help. I'm looking forward to doing that as a son/brother/dad/grandpa – instead of a journalist."
Throughout his career, Boel won an astounding 106 Emmys for his storytelling. His four decades of work in the Louisville market have been spread between WLKY and WAVE. He is also an accomplished triathlete having competed in numerous Ironman competitions and if you follow Boel on Facebook you know he is also an avid fisherman.
Boel is also the author of two books, "On the News ... In the News: A Journalist's Own Story of Recovery and Self-Discovery," and "Cast Away: Five Generations of Family Fish Stories" (Butler Books).
As for retirement, Boel said, "My last newscast will be 6 monthsfrom today- Feb 28th.Lots of time between now and then for all the thank you’s."
